Reims Champagne June 1991 show - Vautour

Post by mozzer » Tue Feb 24, 2015 7:59 pm

Went to this show by Aeroprint tours (and Orlean the day before) & this was the only time I ever managed to see a Dassault Vautour, not one but two. I do apologise for the quality of some of the shots, as the flying ones I think were taken with an Olympus OM1 with manual adapter & a manual focus 400mm lens.

It's a Vautour, not a Valtour.

Apologies folks, but another bit of pedantry. ;) :halo:

This aircraft was actually produced by Sud-Ouest Aviation (SNCASO) with the designation S.O.4050 - and not by Avions Marcel Dassault.

It looks a little like the Thunderchief if it wasn't for the engines under the wings, great photos of a rare beast.

Interesting shots - they were certainly a rare sight in the UK.
I remember seeing one in the static at Benson's Battle of Britain show 15 Sep'62. That was No638 - a 11B light bomber version. Also recall during the early 70's a few occasions when they did Practise Diversions into Wattisham at night - probably the 11N night fighter variant.

Certainly an interesting machine and not seen in the UK very often. I remember them attending an airshow at Bassingbourn but cant remember the year. On 27th May 1978 (when i had a PPL) i landed at Bordeaux and the resident squadron were very active and a number taxied past our parking slot on the apron.
