It won't be the new building for the airframes as it's not got the height for the aircraft or hangar doors to get the aircraft in. This building is more for the smaller items. This building was designed with educational / research tours in mind but the H&S on the existing hangars is likely to make tours of these undeliverable. The new building appears on the latest Google earth images.
The existing hangars are the C,D and L type and therefore come with the usual historical issues of asbestos and spalling. Having said that, on the whole they appear watertight.
It's the old adage of if it ain't broke don't fix it. In reality they would need 10s of millions in funding to consolidate from the existing hangars into a very very large modern building. In the present climate probably a no goer. Having said that if they did find the money this would make a really good out of London museum and a major attraction.

22-01-2022.
You'll be pleased to know that 141309 escaped intact from Davis Monthan and is now in California.
Preserved at McClellan(edited) by 1983 but painted up as 03-0552(should be 53-0552), rather than it's original USN c/s.

Think that should read McClellan the former AFB but now apparently known as Sacramento McClellan Airport

There is a Connie airframe in the UK. This is a 1947 built 749 serial number 2553 N7777G.
This is currently in a storage hangar (17/01/21) at the National Collections Centre of the Science Museum at Wroughton. Unfortunately there is no public access. There was pre covid a couple of occasions over the years when these hangars were open to the public.
The website also has a number of other interesting airframes stored here. Here's hoping that they could open these to all again at some point

Sorry I have not scanned any other pictures from Wroughton, but you are correct in your assumption they are mainly civilian air frames, (there was a Gnat/Devon present)

That's a lovely shot of her, and not a single blue parking cone in sight!
