F-111Es–Penultimate Roll of the Dice – Heyford October 1993

Post by Knife 04 » Fri May 22, 2015 7:48 am

Morning Gents

Trying another approach now (emphasis on the trying) – scanning slides and negatives for better quality after the loan of a slide / neg scanner – Many thanks Brian and Richard

Also many thanks for the processing advice Andy – very much appreciated. Hope these come out OK

On the 13th October 1993 the 55FS were disbanded at Upper Heyford with a full ceremony in the morning. In the afternoon the 20FW parked a couple of the jets out on the ramp for a Photocall - F-111E – 68-020 UH ‘The Chief’ & F-111E – 68-055 UH ‘Heartbreaker’.

After the Photocall there was of course the auction in the 55FS Briefing Room of the Squadron Building. Great afternoon’s entertainment

Hope you find these few scans of interest – C&C welcome as this is my first attempt at scanned slides. A few more on the Flickr page if you’re not too bored of ‘111s

Cheers

Darren

Lovely shots there Darren.
Reminds me of the day I got the opportunity to climb all over 'The Chief'.
Those machines were awesome.

Thanks for posting :thumb:

Looks like you're new approach has paid off Darren - they look great. I missed out on that photocall so its interesting to see what it was like.

Got any shots of them making no flap/no slat approaches? - I took lots of video of them doing this but I don't recall seeing any stills. These approaches simulated an emergency situation where the wings would not travel fully forward preventing deployment of flaps and slats for a normal landing. They were flown at a much higher approach speed than usual and whenever I saw them do this it always resulted in an overshoot mostly into the VFR pattern.

Will look forward to more scans from you're collection Darren,

all the best ,
Graham

Thanks for all the comments chaps - very much appreciated. The only issue I have found with scanning the slides / negs is that it takes alot longer to process with the amount of dust spots that appear from nowhere. Will persevere with this approach but could be a life long task

I have found a couple of boxes of slides from the approach to Heyford - not sure if there are any no flap / slat approaches though Graham. Will let you know when I get round to them

At the moment working my way through the negs of previous posts of the B-52s at Fairford in 1985 (still - better than decorating which has been the 'job' of the weekend)

Have a good remainder of the weekend all

Cheers

Darren
