Old Warden's Temporary New Additions

Post by PaulHP » Mon Aug 13, 2012 11:13 pm

All the aircraft are due to be given to the RAF Museum at Hendon at the end of the airshow season. The RE8 and Albatros will (hopefully) fly at Old Warden soon, the Snipe will be Static only.

What a splendid post, First World War is the most interesting age of flying for me.What's the story of these old-timers? Are they outstanding reprodutions? They look so to me. Or are they superb restorations?

So what are you saying here ?

Fully airworthy aircraft from this vintage are going to be sent to the Museum at Hendon and grounded forever !

If so what a waste hopefully I am wrong and misunderstood the situation.

Macks,

They are all replica's. Two are flyers, one is static. They are going to the RAF Museum in exchange for some of their aircraft going the other way.
Old Warden have them until the end of the airshow season, they are currently being put back together and someone from TVAL in New Zealand, is on their way over to to check them out before they take to the air.

The RAF Museum will then either put them on display or more than likely into storage.........

Does anyone know what they were exchanged for?

Thanks for the info :thumb:

Still prefer airworthy aircraft even if replicas to remain that way for as long as possible and then retired life expired. Will be an even bigger shame if they do just go into storage probably never to see the light of day

Apparently they swapped a Farman F1.41 and Hanriot HD.1.

The RE8 flew this morning before the Collection opened. A group of RAF Museum visitors turned up mid-morning to see their new aircraft:

I don't suppose he told the reporter that the RAF Museum would be donating the 2 flyers to the Shuttleworth Collection?

Which is why I love Shuttleworth and their policy of flying what they have. IWM Duxford has an R.E.8 so it's not as though there isn't a static example for the public to see and why go to the bother of building an airworthy replica if it's going to be stuffed and mounted?
