The map room in the Control Centre ‘had’ a map of Europe and the USSR on the wall. The map was semi ‘removed’ due to its sensitive nature and apparently had pins denoting ‘targets’ in Eastern Europe and USSR!

Well – that’s it – thanks for looking and apolgies for boring you all! From my point of view I had an absolutely great day looking around inside the old base.
I cannot express enough gratitude to Mr Don Todd, Karen Brock and the Dorchester Group for their time in allowing, arranging and conducting the visit to former RAF Upper Heyford – a great afternoon – thank you!

Brilliant thread on my favourite US Base. I was made up in 1990 when the M40 was finished which made life easier for me to get to Heyford (Arley end), then a year later they anounced it's closure! :(

How frequent are the base tours held?

Brilliant photos, there is a good thread on AiX on Upper Heyford, runs into several pages:

Its a great Airfield to look around.
