Cornish airshows in the 80s/90s

Post by buzzer » Sat Feb 04, 2012 3:36 pm

been scanning again ;)
bits and bobs from different shows here in west Cornwall.
first of went to what was called a "Fly in" one Sunday afternoon at St Just (lands end)air field in about 1988
thought it would only be load of civi types but there were the odd war bird types there to ;)
Image
think this little chippy was one of the fist to go on the civi register? as the type was still being used by the
services(at the time the RAF, ACC and RN were still using them :) )
hence the Bar in the middle of its register!
Image
the Culdrose glider clubs old tug! Prince charles did his first solo in it, and was painted red like all Royal flight types were!
Image
Image
PT-22 and PT-23

then on on the Culdrose.
one or two for now!! pick of the bunch.
Image
Image
as well as regular CAF F-18s thay would allso bring other more interesting types!
Image
don't know why, but at the time i never took main photos of the 705sqn Gazelles!! thought thay would be with us for ever i guess!
Image
Image
Image
not the best shot, and been heavily cropped! but you get the idea!
Image
got load more to do later but will update when i have..
hope you like.
p.s. most of these ones are from my dads collection as mine were lost many years ago. so thanks goes me dad

Nice one Pete , I have the same issue with 705sqn Gazelles , saw the damn things all day every day and didn't bother to photogragh them, or very rarely anyway !
That T-33 is a lovely shot , Culdrose '88 as far as I remember

was all part of the show1
the gazelle would land.. and a "civi" would run out from the crowed and.. umm.. take it unauthorised! the pilot would then run after him and hang from the skid as he lifted of :P
in the second photo you can see the "civi" flying it.. "civi" cloths and all! ;)
all part of the show.. happened nearly ever year!

Ah right. Abit like the Finningley shows when they would say over the loud speakers that there was a car parked where it shouldn't be and that if it wasn't moved they would move it for them. A little while later along a Chinock picked the said car usually a old mod Austin 1800 and take it up in the air then drop it on the airfield!!!!
