MCAS Miramar - Flying Leatherneck Museum - March 2011

Post by Fentiger » Thu Apr 14, 2011 7:30 pm

Hi There,

Had a short business trip to San Diego (:thumb: ) so got in some museums on my time out.

First stop was Miramar which has a nicely presented museum showing Marine corp aircraft.

I will post some of them here however the rest can be seen on the following Flickr link http://www.flickr.com/photos/9643089@N0 ... 430137970/

F-18 Hornet (looking a bit sun bleached)

Saddam Hussain's helicopter liberated from the 1st Gulf war

CH-46E I think this is also an historic airframe but did not get any details

Worth a visit if you are ever in that neck of the woods. They have some Top Gun merchandise in as well :-)

WIll post some shots of my other museums visited in that area soon.

Enjoy.

Thanks for the response so far and I agree with the comments. 261 views so far.. only 3 comments. Maybe I should post some less exotic creatures from 30 miles up the road at CBY in poor sunlight instead of these Californian birds...

@ Pikey01 - San Diego came as a bit of a suprise to me as I was not meant to be there, was meant to be in China (again) but it was an OK excursion. A long way from Lincolnshire though! My work does drag me around a bit. Have photos from the China Aircraft Museum(s), and Finnish museums to post still from over the last 6 weeks :D

@Stu, agree, California was superb and took my heart as well. Food for thought...

Very nice shot's from an excellent museum. I visited it a couple of year's ago , they didn't have the Iraqi " Huey " on display when I went .
