Barksdale Global power museum March 2025

Post by Jonathan Warner » Thu Apr 10, 2025 9:16 am

During our recent US tour we had several museums on the to do list. first up was the Global power museum just inside Barksdale AFB.
due to certain rules over there, it wasn't easy to gain access due to us being foreign!
even after we jumped through all the hoops, we still got there and spent over an hour bouncing between gates due to their clerical errors and our names weren't on the list!! thankfully a few phone calls later and someone was finally able to confirm we were allowed in! the crazy thing is, the museum entrance is about 10 meters from the base security gate!
lots of interesting exhibits both inside and out, including the plinth that former president Bush addressed the nation on September 11th 2001 after the attacks which he did from Barksdale.

Great set from a great place.
This museum has been on my bucket list for a long time. But at 77, I'm running out of time, insurance is going sky-high (as are fares) and now we have the trade war,
I might just have to settle for looking at other people's photos

Good to see they are looking after SR-71 17967 - one of the final pair reactivated to be retired again in 1999 - 26 years ago already. Although she ought to be inside since it was delivered pretty fresh from the overhaul during reactivation - be a shame to see them subject to the elements.
