USS Midway Museum, San Diego - 3 April 2025

Post by stevep22 » Mon Apr 07, 2025 7:03 pm

Hi there,

Just spent a few days in San Diego and naturally the Midway was on the 'must do' list. So a few shots from the flightdeck for you. More to follow....

Great Pix
Was there in Oct. '23 for a second visit.
Nice collection, but I wish they wouldn't paint different sides of the same aircraft in different schemes (and serial numbers)
Main reason I needed to go back was the Cutlass, not having seen one before

The hangar deck is also getting more crowded than previously.

The only aircraft I could see carrying two different colour schemes were the F4 and F14. They carried the same serial number.however, on both aides

Both carried the small 153030 but the port side also had a 'last four' of 0646 which was a w/o in 1965

Still the same in 2023

Great set of images. Actually I beg to differ, I think it's a very practical idea to dual mark the fighters, primarily considering the limited amount of space topside, and it adds to the variety of amazing colour schemes the USN adorned their aircraft in the 1960's & 70's. Believe me, it could be worse, like what was done to the canopies of some of the exhibits at Palm Springs. :O
Everyone has a photographic memory; some just don't have film.

I just prefer things to be in their real ID's & colours. Museums are there to preserve history.

Imagine the fuss if archaeologists painted Tutankhamun's Golden mask with flesh colours.

Thanks for sharing these with us, interesting selection of shots. Nice to see the Vigilante, whilst the Cutlass is a rarity.
