Manston Fire Dump - 2006

Post by aenstrop » Thu Dec 14, 2023 12:15 am

Seeing a recent post about Alconbury’s fire dump and the mention of Manston had me looking to see if I’d posted these. Apologies if I have already.

Taken sometime between Jan-May 2006 while detached there. If I can find the originals I’ll add dates in due course.

Sad to see them in the state they were in, but they were used to good effect training firefighters for the day no one wants.

Thanks for looking.

Much of my early 60's 'spotting' involved going around Scotland (by bus & train) to dig around in Scrapyards (Quarrywood, Elgin, Perth etc.) so I ended up with an interest in airframes that were on the point of extinction.
It meant, eventually, that my ambition, of course, was to visit MASDC as it was then. Managed that in 1974 and have now been there 5 times.
So, from my point of view, it's always good to see shots like these!

Thanks for sharing these, interesting to see them. That Canberra lasted well, I saw it when it had just arrived and before it was removed to the training area.

I wonder what the fireman is about to do? :halo:

The F-4J is either now at Kemble or on her way to be restored under the BPAG.

Interesting stuff, some of my shots from 1991, unfortunately my shots of ZE360 from March/April 91 did not get returned from processing. 4 shots in the album are a little after 2000
