May 20th,1973 Cambrai-Epinoy

Post by Keflavik69 » Sat May 20, 2023 5:05 am

Today 50 years ago, I visited the bi-annual open door day at Cambrai-Epinoy, France. The colour-schemes of the aircraft were a lot different from the grey disease nowadays.
In the seventies each French base really presented itself each two years and mass-flights were real mass-flights then. That day a total of 27 Super Mystere B2's were seen by me. In case somebody wrotedown numbers there then, I still miss the number for 12-YC.

Thanks Arnold, some wonderful shots from fifty years ago and some more great memories. Nice selection of schemes too, some rare types such as the Breguet 941 and who doesn't love a Broussard. Nice to see the JP4s of the Macaws team sneaking into a couple of shots, they disbanded not long after, so never progressed to the JP5 like the other teams. Thank you Arnold, you've really come up with the goods again and I can say that everyone will enjoy viewing these.

Wonderful images as ever Arnold. I count myself lucky to have spent some years when there was a great variety of aircraft types AND they had some decent paint jobs on them!

A wonderful selection of shots there, Arnold, indeed with more interesting schemes than we see these days. Thanks for posting.

Brilliant Arnold! The images are as good today as any taken with the new digital cameras. I, too, loved the glimpses of the Macaws - we must have had half a dozen demo' teams flying JP's back in those days! Please keep the fabulous photo's coming - great memory jerkers.

Cracking shots Arnold.

On your S. Mystere B.2

BAR/BARG has

YC 52 or 159

From what I could find 52 sold to Israel in 1967

SEAR has it has

YC 159

Also, 'Scramble' has 159 as 'YC' as late as the Cambrai show on 23rd May 1976.

Hi Arnold

Yet another superb set of shots

Crusader is a real standout for me: only got to see one flying on a single occasion, that being IAT 1987 :'(

Thanks for posting :thumb:

Thanks a lot Steve and Mustang5861 for the c/n of 12-YC. I must admit, I am a bit ashamed that it never crossed my mind to check the Scramble database although I use that regularly.
