Pt Mugu Open House 1982

Post by daggerfan » Sun Dec 11, 2022 4:14 pm

Hello all, a few pictures from a visit to Pt Mugu Open House in 1982. Unfortunately, the longest lens I had on the trip was 200mm, so the flying display shots have been quite heavily cropped. Apologies for the resultant poor quality.

Dear Father Christmas, can I have a time machine please?

Did the white F-4 do an ejection demonstration?

Thanks for the comments guys. Yes, iainpeden, it was an ejection demonstration. Unfortunately a guy stepped in front of me at the critical moment. I could have bounced my camera off the back of his head!

Thanks for sharing these, a truly awesome selection of types and I too hope that Santa has plenty of time machines in his grotto. Can't pick a favourite, too many to choose from.

Very nice - I was there on 17th October 1982! It was first port of call on a trip that included Spotters Day at Lemoore, and Open Houses at Norton & Edwards, plus visits to Fort Ord, NASA Ames, Mather, George & March, plus fence viewing at Moffett, Travis, McClennan, Castle, Fresno, Ontario (LAS), Van Nuys, Palmdale, Mojave & Burbank (LAS & Tiger Corporation). Those were the days!

Daggerfan - a question for you!

I have a few unidentified gaps in the log for Point Mugu:

Hangar 35 - A-3
Hangar 351 Bay 1/2 - single F-4
Hangar 351 Bay 5/6 - 2 x F-4

Any joy with those? I think we were jostled and told to hop it - did okay of Hangars 34 & 365 though.

Brgds

Thanks for all the comments guys. Much appreciated.

Yes, happy memories viggen091. If you recall we were pretty much last ones to leave the base!

Sorry Typeflyer, I can't help with the hangars. I don't remember checking any of them out.

Nice shots. What's the story behind the A3 with the "bruised" nose?

The 80s were a cool time. Would've loved to have been there. F-14s, Super Guppy, A-4 and all those different liveries. Nice shots!
