Linton Links - Jubilee Memories

Post by F3 » Thu Jun 02, 2022 9:06 am

Twenty yrs. ago my local base of RAF Linton-on-Ouse made a big contribution to the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations
by mounting the unforgettable EIIR formation in the Flypast. For the Diamond Jubilee in 2012 the Display Tucano was painted in an impressive right Royal Jubilee scheme. Sad to think that the now disused base is currently being considered by the Home Office as a possible (probable?) Centre for Asylum Seekers. Pity the unfortunate villagers having such a facility on their doorstep that in terms of population will swamp that of the village which only boasts a shop, a pub (assuming it has survived both the Pandemic and base closure) and a school in the way of amenities. Both the former base and the local community deserve better.

Interesting photos Michael. It must have been quite a sight to see 31 Tucano's plus most likely a spare taxiing by when standing on that very small spotters parking. I liked that place very much. You saw 15-20 Tucano's on the flightline. With all the flying activities one hour later you still saw 15-20 Tucano's but all were different from the first batch.
Thanks for posting these images.

Yes. It was a delightful spot where I spent many happy hours aircraft spotting. Sadly now just a collection of happy memories. Interesting to note that the number of a/c comprising that formation was nearly half those (70) which took part in today's flypast!

I like the Canberra, presumably a PR9, in the second shot.
