Only available in shades of green or grey, the unique Fairchild A10. Quite frequent visitors to Lossie in their early days of being based in the UK, even sometimes at weekends. One of the few types from that era that are still in service today despite USAF attempts at getting rid of most of them. Maybe recent events will again show their continued relevance.

The DM A-10 75-0294 crashed at The Paris Airshow the following week, killing the pilot.

I seem to remember a couple of A-10As were/ are one of my biggest regrets of my hobby, Early Summer (June I think) 1987 and my Dad suggested a run out to Edinburgh Airport on an Early Sunday Afternoon to keep me occupied, so we did and amongst other juicy Aircraft like a Canberra, Puma, Alize etc which we later discovered were in for one of the usual JMC (remember them people) Exercise thingys were a couple of A-10As which we later found out were flying some sort of display over East Lothian as when I got home I was sitting in my room and I heard them running in for their arrival back to Edinburgh, boy do I regret not having my camera at the ready in those days and I also regret at that point not having my radio on to get a look at them on the way back....

I remember seeing my first two A10s at Culdrose AD in 1980 - one grey, one green IIRC. As an excited 8 year old I shouted 'excuse me' at the top of my voice to one of the pilots as he got out of his aircraft - I was collecting autographs... still have my autograph book with 'Lt Col Bob Hill, A10 pilot' signed on the first page!
