Lovely shots - stand outs for me are the RN Hunter and that superb line-up of US Hornets. Great days indeed!

Ah the USMC, I remember the VMFA-122 and 451 Hornets and the VMAQ-2 EA-6Bs - The EA-6Bs flew right over our school in pairs if memory serves correctly unfortunately never saw the A-4 Skyhawks. The thing I remember about the VMFA-122 visit was that they opened the gates to RAF Turnhouse which wasn't a regular occurance to let us see and look at the Hornets don't think they did that for any of the other deployments?

I seem to remember the JMC Exercises with the likes of the German and French Atlantics, Canadian Auroras, RAF Nimrods and Sentrys, etc. As for the rest of these I heard about them but never saw them.

The memories of RAF Turnhouse.

Great set. Must have been a great venue for spotters back then. Can confirm y're right about the Dutch F-16 being on Elder Joust as I remember seeing a report in Av News which included a pic of one.

I can only recall JMC Traffic and never Elder Joust or Elder Forest Exercises visiting Edinburgh.

What a great thread Ross, I'm just loving these shots. :thumb:

I think the 1st Elder Forest/Joust lunchtime visitors were in 1979, the new terminal had opened by then and our company were still operating from a building very near to the old terminal & apron. I opened the front door to see what was making all the noise outside to find 4 x RAF Germany Jaguars parking at the eastern end of the apron. :Wow:
The same thing happened over the next couple of days and they were nice enough not to send the exact same aircraft every day. :)

Some great pics there and I know that Turnhouse always seemed to attract interesting stuff. Living down South, it was a bit too far, although Manston used to get some visitors when exercises were on, but even that was a bit of a jaunt from home. Living near Gatwick, apart from regular Canadian transports, there were only a few movements each year. But the occasional diversion came in, such as Indian AF AN12 L646 in early 1982. Also after the 1987 IAT, after the Portuguese contingent departed Fairford, the C-130 developed a fault and diverted in, followed by the entire display team with their T-37s.
