Kingcobra at Fighter Meet 1989 (mostly)

Post by paddyboy » Tue Oct 29, 2019 8:35 am

Hi Peeps :P

Sticking my neck out with that title, but I am fairly confident about the date and venue

Didn't think I even took a camera to that show, so the memory cells must be fading faster than I thought

I have a horrible feeling this 'frame was lost at a British airshow a few years later :S

Hope they are worth a peek ;)

Best regards as always

Morning Patrick. Worth a peek as always. Sorry to be a pedant but #3 definitely is nt N.Weald as there are HAS's in the b/ground. Looks more like Alconbury. Y're right about its loss tho'. At Biggin if memory serves. Keep up the good work!

Biggin was G-BTWR in 2001. Had a lovely set of B&W featuring this one at a foggy Duxford autumn show around 1988. Nice to see her in colour again.

Sadly, this Kingcobra developed a problem with smoke in the cockpit , and subsequently crashed, killing John Larcombe, whose daughter Jane was instrumental in organising Flying Legends for many years, and may still be for that matter. Nice lady.

Patrick
1,2 and 8 are definitely at North Weald (the give away is the Catalina in the background if shot 1...C-FHNH). Pretty sure it was 1989 too...I have a photo of the KingCob parked up and the weather looks exactly the same as in your shots !!!

I've managed to track down some prints from the same North Weald show, so here they are. Apologies - the Canso I quoted earlier as C-FHNH was, by the time it reached North Weald, re-registered as N212DM (I saw it as C- at Exeter the previous year!)
