Newark Air Museum Aircraft 26/08/19

Post by csnewton2701 » Thu Sep 05, 2019 9:34 pm

On the way back from holiday we decided to make a planned stop at Newark Air Museum. I have heard good things about the museum and passed it a couple of times without visiting.

On arrival it wasn't hugely impressive with the car park showing 3 aircraft outside and 2 hangars. However that was short lived as on the fence were 2 lists of all frames visible in the 2 large hangars.

To gain entry you have to walk through the shop which is packed full of aviation goodies such as books, DVD's, magazines and model kits. At a reasonable price on £9 per person we entered.

You can see some of the exhibits undergoing restoration and maintenance which is a good sign of preservation.

There are plenty of aircraft outside but the real excitement is how much variation is packed into the 2 very large hangars.

You can have a look around inside the Vulcan at an expense of £1 but due to waiting times we were unable to go on it.

I have called this thread aircraft as I have photographs of the engines there.

I would definitely recommend a visit.

Here is a list of what was seen:-

Thanks for posting the write up and for a great set of photos.

It always seems to be a work in progress situation and a few things have changed since your visit; most notably the MiGs departed today on a temporary basis and will be away until the end of September. Full details in here http://www.newarkairmuseum.org/latest-news along with details of the Cobra Warrior offer that's on at the moment!

Its not a problem and thank you.

I had heard that the MiGs were departing, I'm glad I got to see them.

Thank you to all the staff for making our visit enjoyable, you are all doing a great job.

Thank you for your further feedback Chris and I'm pleased that you caught the MiGs before their temporary deployment.

Morning Paddyboy - if you're able to time your visit correctly we might even have the ex RAF Swinderby Post Box repainted for you; it's next on the list after the telephone box spruce-up project!

Good coverage of one of the very best Air Museums. I'm pleased to see that Cranberry WV787 is now indoors as it is a unique a/c. Most of the airframes appear in good order and are a credit to the place. Next time y're in the area check out the SYAM @Doncaster which is a must if you like Canberras.

Thanks F3 for the additional input, as a point of note the Canberra B.2(Mod) WV787 has been on display inside Hangar 2 since 2005!

Just shows how long it is since my last visit. High time I returned now that I'm less than an hour up the road.
