Some aviation history gems there. I well remember that C-131 which was a Hall resident for many years, but the rarest catch is that Canadian 434 Sqn. CF-5A. The type was assigned to the reinforcement of NATO's northern flank and as such only occasionally got over here on exercise.

I love the F14 Tomcat, one aircraft I never saw flying or static. Been doing photography since 1985 and I went to Mildenhall for the first time in 86, loved the airshow and even today it was the best

That was the Airfete I didn't for some reason. If I'm not mistaken the KC (I'm not near THE book just now) was a Q mark of the 100 ARW, based at Beale; was there an SR-71 on TDY at the time? Think it was the following year they had 17958 in static.
Nowt wrong with the reproductions by the way.

Thanks, guys for the comments and the info, as far as I know, no SR-71 but a few days after the show, I managed a distant photo of a U-2 being readied for a mission. Also around the back, I photographed a French airforce T-33 with a Beech 18 also Armee de l'Air, any info very welcome?

Yes, its a 100thARW Q. No SR's on TDY at the time but as the Q's could A/R every type the A's did it wasn't much of a clue as to whether an SR was present or not.
17958 was in the static in '77.

Some good memories there, thanks. Weather Herk was 53rdWRS - the appearance of one of these was normally an indication that a`Coronet` was imminent. They used to fly the same route over the ocean as the deployment a/c and if the weather was within limits the mission would go ahead, otherwise the dreaded delays kicked in. U-2 was 10338, can't help with the others.

Thanks, Graham. I think 1977 was my first Airfete- only a single-day affair back then; 17958 being my first 'Blackbird'. I might have shots of every one that visited the U.K. (including a renumbered 17955??) though I hasten to add, not on every occasion! Unfortunately I don't have the means to copy them onto the Forum.

Ah the late seventies, some great memories, I got around a lot back then but I was not prolific with a camera in those days.

Must have seen that C131 a hundred times between Mildenhall and Northolt but only have a couple of shots of it.
