McCarran Airport

Post by Snafu » Thu Aug 12, 2010 12:36 am

As i'm currently stuck at McCarrran on a 2 hour delay...and counting....here's what I've spotted this week from my hotel. Hopefully Stevie Jaws can help me with some missing detail:
Last Thurs a C130..blue band on tail
Friday...4 US Harriers, 1 had a distinctive blue tail...they departed Saturday
Sunday a C130..ANG on tail..departed after local downpour
Yesterday C130 NY 5353...had disappeared by the time I got up today
And the pick of the bunch KC135 ZZ number 336...I believe this is a Kadena visitor...he is over the far side of the field as I type this..

Hopefully Stevie, you can fill me in on some detail please

Snafu sorry but I haven't been up near the airport this week at all. I did see the Harriers on the Saturday when they took off and went over my house but too high to see serials or codes ! If you had pm'd me they were there I would have driven up to get them though. The USMC KC-130T will be 165353 NY-353 of VMGR-452 from Stewart-Newburgh Airport , NY and the KC-135 will be 60-0336 ZZ from Kadena AFB . That's all I can help with I'm afraid.
Regards Steve............

Thanks Stevie....back in England now...thanks for the details....wasn't near a computer at the time the 4 Harriers came in to be able to post a heads up. One of them had a WF on the tail if that helps the identification. I did get a nice view of two of them from our cab as we headed up to the Plaza though. The C130 which left after the downpour had a tail number of ANG 90480.

Snafu The C-130 is one from the 192nd AS of the Nevada ANG based at Reno-Stead AIrport , the serial is 79-0480 and is a C-130H ( found a picture of it here : http://jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=192643. The AV-8 coded WF is from VMA-513 " The Flying Nightmare's " based at MCAS Yuma , Arizona and they are fairly regular in Vegas along with aircraft from all the other squadrons based at Yuma but without the rest of the code it's impossible to identify. However you mentioned that one of the AV-8's had a distinctive Blue Tail , if it looks like this : http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA---Ma ... 7548c07f38 then that will probably be one of them as it is the Commander's aircraft of VMA-513. Best I can do I'm afraid.

Top stuff Stevie...that's great info. The blue tailed plane was exactly the one pictured :thumb: :thumb: Thanks for filling in the gaps
