F-18s at Miramar

Post by Aircmdr » Fri Sep 22, 2023 10:12 pm

Hi All,

We’ve just finished at Mirimar show now, just wondering if anyone has a list of serials from the ramp there, we got the MODEX numbers off the tails but unfortunately couldn’t read many serials due to elevators and distance, any help would be grateful,

Cheers
Jack

This is usually just a fudge fest. I have from today...

F-35 Sun Sheds
170___/WL-00 F-35C VMFA 311 Hi Viz Tail
170105/WL-02 F-35C VMFA 311
170106/WL-03 F-35C VMFA 311 serial on tailpipe cover

(169588)/WF-563 F-35B VMFAT 502
plus 2 more (I think), one 'WF' tail on with the 'bog seat' up.

I think the WF's are relatively safe to fudge up - the code is the construction number.

A few more serials may emerge in the next few days, but unless someone gets on the ramp I wouldn't be holding my breath for much more. Most of the hornets in the back/far lines are disused, and some don't seem to have moved since last years show.

I know it’s a long shot but if anyone knows any info from north island that would be fantastic too, we graphed an Indian SH60 there yesterday on the harbour tour so if anyone knows the serial of that I owe you a beer!

There have been three Indian MH-60R operating from NASNI, IN751-753.
Can you post a log of BuNo/codes that you did log please, either here or on a new thread?

Mark

Not sure if you've seen my logs on Mil-Spotters, but I photographed an Indian on the ramp on the evening of Friday 22nd, and it's coded _52 on the nose/chin, which should make it IN752.

I'll put it in a separate North Island post, since it's not really Miramar related. I thought you were on Mil-Spotters?

The 4 F-35C's took off in two pairs just as I was arriving in the museum car park. I waited for 3 hours for them to return, but only 306 and 316 did so.
Heat haze was too bad to read the KC-135's and F-16's, and I couldn't wait for it to die down because of the long drive up to Sacremento for the following day's airshow.

Have updated my initial list with a few more, and a few corrections, gleaned from an evening staring at photos. Don't think I can get any more from them. SH-276 should be gettable if anyone attended on the Saturday because it was one of the 4 that flew in the MAGTF demo. However, I can't find any photos on flickr that are clear enough to ID it's serial.

Not going to win any picture of the month competition, but here are a few. If there is any particular aircraft/modex you're interested in then let me know and I'll see what I can do.
