HOG03/04 depart Lakenheath.

Post by stigorige » Wed Aug 22, 2012 12:53 am

Got to LN early today with great plans to catch the A10s taxiing out, unfortunately they made an opposite direction takeoff from 06 end!
I did what I could...

Thanks for the images. I won't be rushing to get there this morning. I haven't seen an A10 since the late 80s...and it looks like I missed out. Am I correct, they are all now to leave Europe?

Yes, they are on their way out in Europe gone by 2013.
Thirty three years "over here", quite a record!

Hello Stig,
Thanks
So I stayed at home, only to read that they are up in Scotland or Wales????

Any idea whether they will be at Lakenheath for the rest of the week??

Thanks for the kind words folks!
The A10s are on the Aberporth range, but unfortunately I don't think they are planning to visit Lakenheath en-route.
They have been tanking from a QUID from the Hall each day.
I believe the justification given for the large reduction in A10 numbers is that the USAF can no longer afford specialist types.
Everthing has to be multi role these days.
To retain the B52, it is going to take over the Thunderbirds role from the F16!
(The last bit might be untrue!)
Cheers, Stig.

I'd love to see them one more time Paul, otherwise I might have to sort out a Spang trip!
Cheers, Chris.

Fingers crossed bud.I think they will get a "last roll of the dice" on the UK rangers before they go or if things are going the way they are in the world they may not go at all.
