Literally a breathtaking departure from Lakenheath by Attack 11 in 91-0302

Wow, excellent image, what was going on there?
:Wow:
If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!

Vent fuel igniting ? Although the fuel dump pipes are near the wingtips this could be excess fuel venting from the fuselage tanks as there will be a pressure vent port above the fuel tank in case of over-pressure of either fuel vapour or nitrogen blanket gas

Good capture, although there is no ignition of the vented fuel in those pictures, the aircraft is in dry power.

I got several photos of it from the other side, but don't have time to process them properly. Here's one very heavy crop. Make of it what you will

Amazing pictures and glad everything was OK. Is it me or are these magnificent jets finally starting to show their age? It seems on the recent occasions I have visited Lakenheath over the past few months an emergency has been declared every time, including the day a few weeks ago when two C,s returned to Lakenheath with gun jam issues, which resulted in the MOD police clearing everyone parked or standing outside the official car park into it.

Great capture Mike :Wow:
Don't know if ever USAF F-111E/F's ever did it but the Aussies made a party trick with their F-111 of igniting fuel dumped from between the exhaust nozzles and trailing a 20' rocket flame :Wow:
For the air show crowd if you knew what to expect it was great, for those that didn't well scarey !

Thanks for posting

Yes they did in the 70s 80s. I think it stopped after that I'm sure there was an incident somewhere that stopped it

Reported on the BBC

Well done that man for having the good sense to contact the base with his observations and potentially saving a pilots life.

Just shows us 'spotters are useful as an extra pair(s) of eyes.

Also of note in this piece by the BBC is they name the pilot, I guess he must be nearing the end of his front line career, possibly moving to training or such like, Its unusual for a front line combat pilot to be named in the media, normally you just get his call sign

right place right time for all the photographers who have posted images
