A visit to Fallon
Last October I was lucky enough to manage a base visit to NAS Fallon with hopefully the chance to finally shoot some of the VFC-13 F-5`s I have seen on previous posts from there.
Word was when we got out to the States that an Airwing may be in attendance during our base visit and the word was correct with CVW-3 having arrived a few days prior to begin working up.
The only problem seemed to be the forecast temperatures for our day out.....-17deg c on the airfield TAF,so a visit to Wallmart in Ridgecrest for Gloves,Hats and Layers was in order and on the drive there the car temp gauge recorded -20 so it wasn`t far off.
Thanks to the PAO we spent an action packed afternoon at the EOR,so much so that we didn`t have a chance to visit any ramps for images but I`m not going to complain, aswell as the temperatures picking up enough to take off my hat and gloves
Anyway on with the shots
1/VFA-41 FA-18F
2/VAQ-131 Lancers EA-18 lined up
3/VAQ-136 Gauntlets
4/VAQ-133 Wizards
5/Some of the Home Team Hornets FA-18C NAWDC in the brown camo returns
6/Another NAWDC Legacy Hornet with a slow shutter speed
7/NAWDC Growler
8/NAWDC FA-18F plants itself
9/NAWDC F-16 Brown
10/NAWDC F-16 Blue
Some of the visiting CVW-3 Squadron jets, sadly the Growler squadron never flew while we were at the EOR and were just starting to crew up as we were driving off
11/VFA-105 Gunslingers
12/A VFA-83 Rampager lined up on the far runway with a pair of VFA-131 Wildcats
13/VFA-131 Wildcat FA-18E departs on the far runway
14/VFA-32 Swordsmen touching down
15/VFA-83 Rampagers CAG arrives
16/Thanks to the PAO for extending our time at the EOR waiting for this bird to return! VFA-131 CAG
And last but not least some F-5`s of VFC-13 "Saints"

18/
19/Mig-28
20/
Still loads of images to work through and we did get to catch the "Topgun" jet but that will have to remain hidden unfortunately

All great shots Ross, brilliant light as well. NAS Fallon PAO have always been pretty good with access, i manged to get some shots of the F-14 in Iranian camo scheme way back when.

Glad you got your F5's Ross. Great action shots, much better than static ramp shots.

Lovely set of images and perfect conditions for great photography (so long as you're well wrapped up), the only heat shimmer you want to see, is what's coming out of the tail pipes.

Lovely pictures really enjoyed the CAG aircraft.
Re: A visit to Fallon
nice set,especially 15,16 and 19
Re: A visit to Fallon
Great set Ross, really sharp and well composed throughout. In particular 4, 16 & 18 are nice angles.
It's amazing to think that the temperatures get so cold there. When you starting mentioning the temperatures I assumed you would be talking about heat, and struggling with hazy images. Obviously that wasn't the case and the photos show the clarity of the light. Looking on a map NAS Fallon is the same latitude as Mallorca!

Re: A visit to Fallon
Great post, some super colour schemes, and love the F5’s.
Re: A visit to Fallon
Nice pics from a great visit and as you say the PAO Zip is incredibly helpful. My late April trip also included the Top Gun jet but pics requested to be embargoed by Zip until the film is released. A small price to pay for a great visit.
