Ah reminds me so much of seeing the 2 Austrian Eurofighters & Hercules at Leuchars last Airshow back in 2013.

Can any one explain the "CALL 121,5" thing?

The frequencies are 121.5 MHz for civilian, also known as International Air Distress (IAD) or VHF Guard, and 243.0 MHz for military use, also known as Military Air Distress (MAD) or UHF Guard.

The post above explains what it is, this is 'why'.
Ever since '9/11' if an aircraft loses (or chooses not to have) Radio contact with ATC over a longer period, there exists the high possibility of interception by a military aircraft. You will probably have seen/heard of the RAF Typhoon QRA (Quick Reaction Alert) scrambling to intercept such aircraft in UK airspace. The Swiss Air Force have F-5 & F-18 jets with this frequency written on their tanks & are often flown during top-cover for events such as the WEF where many high-profile guests attend a single conference providing a high-value target for a '911 profile'.
Naturally in such events, if the aircraft does not respond on the frequency or obey further internationally recognised protocol, such as changing course after the Interceptor has shown them the missiles carried, then options exist to down the aircraft to avert an attack!
Returning to the Topic. Great shots from one of my favoured locations. I've not shot at the 08 threshold, but if your shots from that end are an example, I need to go there.

Having a massive soft spot for Ef2000 and the Austrians being the only livery I've not seen, I'm very on board with this post! One of my most wanted and always hope for them at RIAT! One year!

If it's anything like other years, you can access the 26 end of the runway. You can park there on Thursday but not on Friday, as all the roads are closed off, but still accessible on foot. Presumably same for show days.
