Early Bird at Prestwick

Post by Ross Forsyth » Mon May 06, 2019 8:25 pm

Managed to make it across to Prestwick on Saturday morning just in time to catch the first of the C-17`s departing in lovely morning sunshine.
A total of 7 C-17`s departed or arrived throughout the day which along with the C-5`s ,Cp140 and P-8 made for an enjoyable day on the west coast.

Blimey, what excellent pics, and apart from that, don't ever recall seeing a pic of four C-17s taxing in-line like that, stateside or this side of the pond. Bravo!  :Wow:

Superb shots - Prestwick is certainly the place to be in the UK for US transports these days. The C-17 line up shots are terrific.

Why so many C-17s? What's wrong with Mildenhall?

Re the Mildenhall question, I think it's partly to do with Mildenhall not being able to accept transient aircraft 24/7. The hours they will accept visiting aircraft movements seem to have been hugely reduced. A couple of years ago the monthly tanker swap at Mildenhall would see the best part of 20 ANG/AFRC tankers pass through in a week - now we get a handful of visiting tankers a month. Someone in the know will be able to expand on this no doubt.
