NAS Mayport

Post by david14 » Sat Apr 20, 2019 5:44 pm

For my visit to Florida last month I thought I'd try to go to NAS Mayport, don't remember seeing reports from there before - doesn't look great from the outside but I managed to get a quick tour. The base is to the north of the city of Jacksonville.

This is a US Navy helicopter base with a port, there are three based squadrons with MH60R - HSM40, 46 and 48, plus a small Saudi Navy training unit. My quick visit was while they were doing a FOD check, so no flying then - but this did mean that we were able to walk the whole flightline.

These shots give you a flavour

Nice shots.

I had a tour here in 92 but the PAO was away sick and we were literally marched off base by security after being asked if we'd got permission from the Pentagon for the tour (not withstanding the confirmation letter from the PAO office!).

Win some, lose some I suppose.

Great set. As the others have said the Saudi is a bit rare!
