Spring in South Korea

Hello my friends,

Haven't posted for a while! I had a very-very busy February after I got back from the UK trip, in fact spent a week at Hyakuri for 302SQ Phantoms that are to be gone within this month. I'll cover that with separate post; in the meantime I'd like to share few interesting catches I made from my local airbase, Seongnam. Korea in March - despite often being sunny - rarely see clear blue skies due to severe dust coming over from China. Thankfully, I was treated with the blue sky yesterday with strong northerly winds blowing in after two weeks of continuous deadly haze. :) Beautiful sunshine and spring breeze meant some hours had to be spent for spotting, so I headed straight out and enjoyed what I was given. Here we go:

Recently, ROKAF converted few of their H variant (allegedly four) into MC-130H standards. They are easily noticeable by the IR pod installed under their chin.

In 2017, ROKAF acquired two Falcon 2000S based SIGINT platform, and will be acquiring two more in coming years. Here, 13-714 performing a surveillance approach with RC-135 seen in the background. (nice combo innit')

One of many ROKAF's VIP fleet, both CN-235 based frames (02050 and 02051) are wearing a special livery which I think is fitting very well on them.

Does it look special? Yes it does, Presidential Chopper working on a visual circuit on a sunny afternoon.

Had bit of a luck with two Falcons flying, normally you see none up in the air :'( :'(

Here's the loooooooong one. Yet to get a J model unfortunately!

With 20 in the fleet, CN-235 is a key player in ROKAF's air transportation missions.

Well it would be less fun if it ends up here, right? So I brought one more...

There she is, the Korean Government B744, otherwise known as the Code One!

Hope those were all to your liking and thanks for looking out.

Cheers,

Jamie

They are awesome. Have a visit planned later this year for ADEX, would like to add this place in if possible. Any chance you could provide me info/coordinates for where you took your images from?

Hi Ross,

Yeah bit of a haze always in Spring, however we normally see very blue tone of skies in fall and winter. Summer is bit like UK though - rain and sun and rain. Glad you liked my photos.

Hi Anthony, indeed there are few planes in ROKAF that are rarely to be seen elsewhere!

Thanks mate,

I reckon those Falcon 2000S were only ordered from the Korean AF (it’s a custom-converted airframe by Korean Air’s aerospace division anyways) and never to be seen anywhere else. Due to missions they’re carrying out it’s extremely hard to get a decent photography chance, for them typically departing early in the morning and arrives very late in the evening or even after sunset. Putting all that into consideration, seeing two out of two flying was purely a pot luck. Never seen Friday being this busy!

How could you possibly go wrong with the classic British jets?! Shame RAF no longer operates Domini, it would certainly have been a nice addition to my Hawker 800 (BAe125) collection!

ADEX is a great show, you won’t be disappointed. Regarding spotting location please send me a private message nearer the actual event dates and I’ll be happy to help you out.

Exceptionally high quality images of some unusual types. I do like that camouflage scheme on the transports. The variations in tone make them more photogenic than the normal mono or 2 tone schemes.

You too. Hope you caught the F-15s returning at LN the following day? Saw you in the field by the runway lights as I drove home mid-morning.
