RAF Marham & Lakenheath - Monday 22nd October (Updated 24th)

Post by LN Strike Eagle » Mon Oct 22, 2018 8:12 pm

Trip to Marham today, via an hour or two at Lakenheath to catch some departures on 06. Didn't really get any great topsides and several of them climbed out pretty steeply, but 250mm is about enough to fill the frame so that's a trip for another day.

Marham turned out pretty well though - runway 01 is good for approach shots and the taxiway is a great spot all day long. Four flights (RAF100 jet flew twice), and the last pair returned in perfect light. An F-35 was up too, but no pics of that as it was too far away.

Cracking shots! Whereabouts at Lakenheath were you positioned for those shots, every time I've been there they've been on 24 so I've never really known where the good spots are for when 06 is in use!

Same place as you would be for 24 landings, the forest entry on the A1065. :thumb:

Nice set - weather was lovely

I did get the F-35 from White road but the light was right down the runway.

I drove past the field entrance but it was already full to capacity with cars so didn't stop.

( Last year at Marham you would be unlucky to see more than 4 cars at the 24 approach end)

Absolutely love shots mate!

You must have literally just been to the left of me at the fence getting those taxiing shots, I was more over to the right getting some head ons - And was running around in all sorts of locations so apologies I didn't bump into you!

We did have some corking light all day yesterday, so definitely look forward to seeing mine late

Nice one,
James.

Great photos, thanks for posting. Where were the taxiing Tornado shots taken from, please? Was it to the west of the pig farm (and east of the 01 centreline)?

Yes. I posted the details of a few locations at Marham in the relevant section of the forum. It's towards the bottom of the page at this link: viewtopic.php?f=51&t=168007

James, I did wonder if you were about. I didn't see your car at Lakenheath in the morning. I hope the info I gave checked out and you had a good day.

Yeah I went straight to White Road and left it there for the day :)

Excellent stuff. Did you get the first two taxiing out at 11:30? Missed them by 10 minutes - without the pit-stop to Tesco in Brandon we'd have been OK. :grr:
