Poorly, Patched Up Phenom

Post by 3Greens » Wed Jul 04, 2018 7:58 pm

Parked on the back ramp at Waddington and missing out on the practice Tuesday, despite wearing Anniversary marks, was Phenom ZM337 clearly displaying signs of a 'skin disorder' :'( (Apologies for poor quality though the wire)

Just two vents covered over. No problem with it at all

I thought the same. Odd place for a bird strike.

There's two louvered outlets to the rear of the engine. Unsure what they are for on the pheanom. These inlets and outlets are covered if the aircraft is on ground for a couple of days

337 was not the a/c that got a suspected bird strike on Tuesday, that was 336.

I have only seen 335/336 flying since they moved over to Waddington, that's not to say it hasn't flown.

It caught my attention Pete as it it looked a bit odd with just strips of insulation tape securing the orange plastic, rather than a 'bespoke' manufacturer cover

Sometimes there's just no other way to blank vents. Even static ports are often covered with plastic. I'm just about to have a look at a phoenom at work so I'll post a photo from Flickr.

Reports on PPrune suggest that there are only two working Phenoms as the other two had an inadvertant mid-air coming together

Well there's five Phenoms in total so someone's maths isn't quite up to scratch!

ZM333 last flown 15 May 2018 as "Cranwell32"
ZM334 last flown 18 June 2018 as "Cranwell32"
ZM335 last flown 03 July 2018 as "Cranwell31"
ZM336 last flown 03 July 2018 as "Cranwell30"
ZM337 last flown 30 July 2018 as "Cranwell38"

So it's possible that 335 and 336 had an issue, but they were flying as individual aircraft and not a formation, so...

I'd say that 333 and 334 may be down for maintenance, possibly leaving 337 as the only flyable aircraft if the post on PPRuNe is to be believed?

Davem,
Where have the Phenoms been parking when at Waddo? I ask because I wonder whether ‘335 & ‘336 have relocated to Cranwell yet. Cheers, Freeman
It’s not what you look at that matters. It’s what you see.

Thanks Davem. I did find them eventually. I can’t comment on today, but they were both still visible at the Harmston end on Friday night as we drove down to the Kings Head in Navenby :thumb: .
