Many Thanks

It was probably a day when video does them more justice. They were very close to each other. As each one passed by quiet slowly the next one was already in front of you. The noise directly underneath must have been deafening and persistent.

Runway 01 has some good photo opportunities.

( Edit just noticed I have put these in the wrong section - sorry)

Very nice photography.

I still can't warm to these yet but I'm sure when the only other aircraft we fly are drones or civvy contracted I'll like them more.

They would be greatly improved by 617 squadron markings too! Any chance these will get painted on, or is that high-tec paint too fragile?

I’ve heard it said before about the paint and squadron markings, although other Air Forces don’t seem to have an issue with it, especially the USN with their F-35C’s.
That said, given the state of the RAF Typhoon and Tornado fleets, the best we’re likely to get is the ‘last three’ on the tail in a matching shade of grey! :(

Does anybody think there may be an outside chance of an RAF 100 sticker on one of the new "Stealth jets" as the BBC called them last night they are active within the required period?

It could easily be removed when the aircraft goes into action which will be some time I would think.

Surely they will send one to RIAT to support RAF 100???...one could even LAND at Cosford God forbid!...how cool would that be?

For the nation and air forces (I include the Fleet Air Arm in that) who more or less invented aerial combat we are one of the worst when it comes to celebrating
anything remotely to do with pride, unit heritage and continued excellence, only really doing the least acceptable when it comes to squadron markings/schemes nowadays.

I know for a fact that it isn't the units and squadrons that are reluctant to do this, it emanates form somewhere in the "towers of misery" in the RAF/MOD....come on lads, start flying the flag for goodness sake!

I visited Yuma Air Show in March and the Marines had a superb unit emblem on the tail of one of their new jets and it hadn't flown it's initial official mission so disrupting the
paint pattern/surface can't be that critical.

I guess a pre-requisite is;-

Paint
Time
Imagination

We have time...the other two unfortunately are either unfunded or in short supply.

Nice pics and thanks for recording the event. In the days of cameras with film you would only have needed black and white, except perhaps to show the blue sky!

I couldn't agree more. Call me a cynic but I really can't see that whatever special coat of paint they're putting on these things makes the haypeth of difference to its 'stealthy' characteristics and perhaps more to the point these aren't going anywhere near a 'hostile environment' anytime soon (or ever?!) - far too expensive and far too much at stake to put them in harms way (we aren't the Isralies!) - and probably not enough money to fly them all that much either. So if they're going to be sitting pretty (or ugly in fact) on the tarmac it would be nice to colour them in a bit! Same with all the Typhoons - colour them in for heaven's sake! When they roar over me at 20,000ft I can't tell you that they have or haven't got a nice paint job on so no 'enemy' of ours is going too either - I don't think any operational capabilities are compromised by having, or not having some nice markings! Certainly makes our hobby more interesting.

Ultimately, however, I feel sorry for Airfix and Humbrol and for the modellers of the future. You can have one colour as long as it's 'stealth fighter' grey, all the decals are grey too and there is nothing to differentiate a US one from an Italian one etc. pretty boring. Saves Airfix money I suppose on colourful and costly decals!

Now before I get a whole load of abuse I realise that these aircraft don't fly for our enjoyment etc. but I do think a bit of 'warpaint' and heraldry wouldn't go amiss!

That's funny!

What a fuggly thing the F-35 is. And why all the flaps? There appears to be a lot 'going on' considering all it's having to do is land!!

Certainly not the most graceful bird the RAF has ever flown!

Don't see why not, Halfords still have some available in their shops :thumb:
