During w/c 14th May saw the Finnish Airforce hold its annual open doors style events to demonstate its people and machinary in action. Having been to a few of these before, this was the first time in at least 10 years when all four were held on consecutive days, even if this did cause some serious driving logistics. Even more noteworthy was the weather, with perfect weather throughout the week, certainly not the normal going by previous visits. The bases open were Tampere, Kuopio, Rovaneimi and the Army base at Utti, with display flying along side regular flying activities taking place throughout.

The light is awesome, the ground taxi shots against the dark conifers and the Midnight Hawks at Rovaniemi with the dark cloud backdrop are stunning

It's maintained in a running state but not flying I believe by a technical school on site at Utti.

Very nice Kev!. Just hope we have nice weather in Japan like you did in Finland not as hot.

Nice travelogue set. Particularly liking that Midnight Hawks scheme, the Norwegian Vampire in 4 Sqn. mks ..and the caribou herd. Just a bit different to the hares we get to watch @ displays over here.
