Special Tail ZH866

Post by bradley@Norwich » Thu Aug 10, 2017 6:25 pm

Hi All,

I got lucky on my lunch break today as Gauntlet 60 did a low approach and go around at Norwich Airport.
ZH866 is the last of the special tail Royal Air Force C130's i needed. So the Chance to photograph it in sun was more than welcome.
Anyway, enough waffle, here is my photo of it approaching runway 09.

Enjoy!

Excellent. Love the scheme- caught it once at Boscombe, great light but wrong runway unfortunately! Thanks for posting.

Apparently this aircraft spent quite some time doing circuits over wisbech with the undercarriage only part deployed, one side fully lowered, one side semi retracted and nosewheel fully retracted. Looks like crew would have had to wind the wheels down.

On-going test & evaluation I think? Saw it about 3 months back pounding the circuit at Boscombe Down without the main-gear doors fitted! Didn't note the gear positions, but it didn't look unusual. Multiple full-stop intermediate landings & t/o.
