Cairo's Gems Part I
Cairo's Gems Part I
A day stop in Cairo recently offered the chance to try and shoot some of the resident 'gems'.
Almaza Airbase in the city is home to a fair amount of transports and choppers of the Egyptian AF, including some aircraft very difficult to catch. Of course, hanging around here is not recommended, but a few 'better than nothing' shots were managed of part of a ramp visible from a 'chosen' hotel.
Followed by a visit to one of the museums containing aircraft, the 6th of October War Panorama, and a few final shots of the most famous 'artifacts' of all here.
So, at Almaza the An-74 (1255/SU-BPM) stayed firmly in the hangar, with another being even more elusive around the corner...
The 6th of October War Panorama is a memorial to the 1973 October war. Three aircraft on display outside are joined by some captured Israeli hardware from the Yom Kippur War, including some remains of a shot-down A-4. I was told the lowered turrets indicate defeat...
Finally, the light show at Giza (1900-1945 every night) is a bit special...
Part II to follow, with the main Airforce Museum. Cheers, Kevin

Had no idea the Caribous were still active, fascinating set.

Re: Cairo's Gems Part I

Re: Cairo's Gems Part I
Very nice Kevin, mind you I think S Korea's probably safer than wandering around Cairo! Regards Taff.

Cheers and merci guys
No probs, Taff, didn't push my luck. If the F-4's were still operating at Cairo West, i may have done though!
