RAF Hercules ZH877 Ascot167 at Spadeadam 13/04/17

Post by catkins » Thu Apr 13, 2017 9:47 pm

I managed to luckily catch the last couple of runs over RAF Spadeadam this morning of RAF Lockheed Hercules C-130J C4, ZH877 with a callsign of Ascot167.
The light was okay though cloudy and fortunately I had one good close flyby. The rest of the day was the usual Spadeadam surprise ... nowt!
The pass was southwards with the Herc against the backdrop of Hadrian's Wall before returning towards my location and then heading northwards towards Kielder. It then left Spadeadam to return to base I think via the Eden valley.

I think the pilot is a bit optimistic if he thinks he can land it on the road at Wiley. :D

Cheers and I'd have to say that catching action at Spadeadam, let alone sharing it, is always a pleasure! And it's always great to see the big heavies being thrown around the wild isolation of Spadeadam.

Cheers, and yes it's pleasing to catch some low flying at Spadeadam - I used to take loads of poor photos there (I blame the photographer & lack of decent lenses!) and was known for 'aircraft in the landscape' shots, but they are so much a feature of photography at Spadeadam ... it's such a vast area.
Re the bird, no that's found further south on the range, this was a Skylark that managed at one stage to fool the autofocus!

Oh the joys of Spadeadam, anything the Dutch can do with their Chinook the Brits can do with their Hercs!!
But actually this was training against threats I presume in approach to Kalinsky airfield to then make an evasive abort.
Cheers, Chris

Thanks, just wish there was more than what seems just one photo opportunity a day ... now one day I'll catch the Atlas again and the Osprey in the wilds, but I think something called Luck will be key (unless aircrew want to PM me in advance  )
Have you been up to Spadeadam recently?
Cheers, Chris.
