Constant Phoenix returns - Mildenhall 08.09.16

Post by DanBeeden » Thu Sep 08, 2016 6:57 pm

Hi all,

Made it to Folly Road by the skin of my teeth to catch the Constant Phoenix arriving this morning. If I'd realised earlier I'd have been in a better spot given the sun. However, no complaints as it was super to see a white topped '135 coming down the approach with a long smoke trail behind. I made the best I could of the shots with the tricky position of the sun. These won't win any awards, but thought I'd post as a record of the arrival of 'Cobra 55' this morning.

Taxiing in past Folly Road. Trying to work out why the tail looked odd and eventually twigged that the stars and bars are missing. The aircraft looks exceptionally shiny so possibly recently out of rework?:

Shame there's no audio for these TF33's:

A few other movements; Tenn ANG tanker arriving on 11:

Pennsylvania ANG T-tanker taking the 29 under-run as 'Reach 562'. Last time I saw this jet the nose was resplendent in some absolutely magnificent artwork :'( ImageKC-135T 58-0099 171st ARW Pennsylvania ANG by Daniel Beeden, on Flickr

Hope these are of some interest and that people are successful in seeing the WC move over the coming days.

Dan

Thanks for the photos Dan - certainly is a shiny airframe!

The timing of it's arrival is amusing, I wonder if they want to see what is in the air above Aleppo? Or perhaps they knew the Young Un was about to play with his chemistry kit and wanted to sniff his fall-out?

Many thanks for the kind comments. Regarding the reason for its visit others on the forum will likely know more than me but I recall the last time a Constant Phoenix deployed (it was the other jet - 12667 in April 2015 I think) to the Hall it was doing 12hr+ sorties to the Med that possibly followed Assad using chemical weapons. Anything sampling the air related to Kim Jong Un's tests would fly out of Kadena AB on Okinawa.
