Japan December 2015 - Nyutabaru

Post by p6025 » Fri Jan 01, 2016 9:35 pm

With some JASDF base changes in prospect during 2016, this might have been the last chance to visit the airshow at Nyutabaru while the Tactical Fighting Training Group (aka the Aggressors) are still present. With a lack of holiday left this ended up being a day of travel before and after, with just four days at Nyutabaru to catch practices and the main event on Sunday 6th December.

Thursday 3rd - The dress rehearsal for the air show is usually the Wednesday before but was cancelled due to weather. Handily for me this was held on the Thursday instead. So I spent the morning in the fields to the south of the airfield to catch the displays. Once those were completed normal training operations resumed for the rest of the day.

Friday 4th - Highlight of this day were really the arriving visitors for the airshow.

Saturday 5th - a families day kind of event not open to the public. Spent the day again in the fields to the south of the airfield in what was the best weather of the trip.

Sunday 6th - Sadly exactly as forecast the show itself was a complete washout from my point of view; though points must be awarded as almost everything flew as scheduled, though the Blue Impulse cancelled after a couple of passes signalling the end of the day.

Great set, Paul. How many trips to Japan did you do in 2015?

Thanks for all the comments.

Chris, the answer is: as many as I could manage, which turned out to be four... This last trip to Nutabaru airshow was very a last minute thing, just in case it was the Aggressors last presence at the show. The Latest word seems to be they will move to Komatsu by July - so likely it was their last. Komatsu is not a patch on Nyutabaru in terms of vantage points.

Hi Paul,

Good effort! Have heard the same and was thinking of visiting in February to make the most of it. I hear the F4s will relocate to Hyakuri too - April time I understand?!?

Cheers,
Chris

Don't have a date for 301 to leave, still just quoted as FY2016. So your guess is as good as mine, but my guess would be much later in the year.

February?! You'd better remember that hat from your avatar, and pick up some of those hand warmers... I'll stick to the more civilised April timeframe and hope they have cut the grass.

Paul.
