The sun sets on 22 Sqn A Flt, Chivenor

Post by Mo » Sun Oct 04, 2015 8:08 am

After a brief extension of duty, today, Sunday 4th Oct, should see the last flight and SAR handover from 22 Sqn A Flt.
Shot on Friday night, a couple of snaps of the big old yellow birds as the sun set on the last few days of 57 years of SAR at Chivenor.
Sad times...

That first shot is a beauty Mo.

The retirement has certainly accelerated over the last week or so, can't be many 'Flights' left now(if any)?

Lossie, Boulmer, Valley, Wattisham, Chivenor have all closed shop what about Leconfield?

Great and very poignant pictures.

I grew up down there, and remember the Whirlwinds and Wessex vividly as a kid.

Lovely poignant shots, Morley, much appreciated.

Leconfield stood down in the summer - handed over to Coastguard helicopters at Humberside airport.

Certainly an end of an era.
A painfully poignant time, I had 4 fabulous years at SARF HQ St Mawgan and had the opportunity to travel all 6 bases and 3 Sqns.
Here's hoping the civ alternative can match
