Szolnok AFB, Open Day, 2015

Post by Levente » Mon Jun 01, 2015 2:02 pm

Last weekend the gates opened to the public and with a registration you were able to get in to the base. Lot of stuff were on static display, 3 Mi-17/MI-8 did a demo. The L-29 did not came, as I heard because of engine trouble and there was no Gripen as last year. I have mixed feelings with this year show, as the last year's was very good. Anyway, not a bad day since a great Army Dinner was included as well. :thumb:

Very nice!
It looks like some of the aircraft from the Szolnok museum (now closed) are now on display on the base. The feathered Mi-24, yellow MiG-21 and special L-39 were in the museum a few years ago. Levente, what happened to the other museum aircraft?

Cheers,
Rob

Hello Rob!

Well the featherd Mi-24, or as it officially called Tweety I is in the museum - sort of -, this on the photo is Tweety II, "made" in 2010 for the airshow, Tweety I was "made" in 2001. And yes...the special painted jets were in the museum, which is close now, probably forewer. They want to move it for a different location, but the new place is smaller, and about 30% of the planes/helos wont be mowed away. We all are shocked here, but sadly, the musuem officially closed and wont be opend in the old place.

Here is a list, it is in hungarian, but you can see, which plane has an X mark will be moved to the new location: http://lhsn.hu/ideiglenesen-bezart-a-sz ... ulomuzeum/

This is news to me, I did not realise there were two of them. This means I have seen both: 117 in the museum in 2013 and 716 at Kecskemet airshow in 2010. Great birds!

But it's really sad that this excellent museum has closed and many interesting aircraft won't make it to the new location. :'( I hope the museum keeps at least all the Hungarian aircraft.
