48th Liberty Wing 2016 Previously Unpublished (more added)

Post by XWP29 » Sun Dec 25, 2016 2:06 pm

Thanks to the Liberty Wing Media Department for the opportunity to document flying actions (and non flying options when the weather declined to oblige). Held through out the year the wing must have played host to many Aviation Photographers who like me were surprised and very grateful for the hospitality. Hope you enjoy them.

Here are some pictures over this year.

Squadron tradition is that they adopt the traditional headwear of the country they are stationed in. Bowler hats were far mor commonly worn in 1960 than in 2016.

Magnificent set of pictures.

These are terrific. Great to see a bit of an insight into life on the squadrons. Fantastic stuff!

A fantastic and fascinating set of shots. It's great to see some of the 'behind the scenes' stuff. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks very much for posting these photos, they're a really nice mix of people and machinery and as a new member of FC it's the first time I've seen a behind the scenes look at the base and some of the traditions of the people who work there.

At the risk of asking what is hopefully not a daft question, how did you go about getting access? is it just a case of contacting the Public Affairs Office?

Many thanks in advance!

Mark

These excellent shots have just reminded me of the days back in the late 80s and early 90s when I visited Lakenheath (F111s) and Bentwaters and Alconbury (A10s)

I need to dig out all the photos I took at the time on my old Camera.

I always recall at the Alconbury visit it was just after the first Gulf War and although they were very accommodating with showing me around the base and the Squadron buildings? Some were very strictly out of bounds.
