9 French guys hanging around

Post by topboar » Tue Oct 06, 2015 9:35 pm

Hi all
my friend Bruce martin asked me to put up a few pictures of the recent French pumas flying around our area and back to Wattisham.
Here are a few pics of 9 parachutists tethered to the bottom of a puma that flew over mine and his house.
Never seen this done before quite a rare sight.

Great catch, very jealous, the first shot is a cracker.

There must be a joke to be had about 9 frogs on a long rope...... :S

From an operation point I wonder how far the troops like to be carrier like this ?
There must be a big restriction on the flight profile compared to simply absailing the troops direct from the aircraft ?

I can see the point operationally for extraction when there is no winch or LS available, but to do it for live training - hmmm?
Hooking up to a rope isnt exactly rocket science is it?

Seen the US Marines do this sort of thing at Miramar Show. Had not considered its usefulness in extraction a large group quickly with out landing. But still a temping target for ground fire :'(

I understand nine parachutists jumped from the French Transall during the recent exercise - I suspect these are those same nine guys after their mission, being extracted.

Rather them than me !

On Friday I was driving along the A11 in Norfolk towards Norwich and I saw 2 mil helos flying south in the distance. One appeared to have something hanging underneath, I initially thought it may have been an underslung load or even a flag - but it was probably this! Cool.

Hi,
Great pictures,I saw this same tatic in use at RAF Fairford (FFD) a few years ago (2003 I think!) this time it was the U.S Special Forces out of Mildernhall hanging from a couple of CH-53 Super Staillions ,I must say that was a awsoume site ,as it was durning the night this happened ,so it was very difficult to see them (as is their purpus I guess ) but as they approached low over the fields I could hear the CH53s long before I saw the troops hanging from the ropes ,it was during an airfield re take exercise ,which also involved a pair of SOG C130s and (I'm not sure) a Hawk or some other form of fast jet for top cover :thumb: ,anyway was a fantastic couple of mins( yes it really happened that quickly!!) it was all done within five mins of troops being on the deck ,still it was a awsoume site :thumb:
Anyway thanks very much for sharing :)
All the best ,
