'Ascot-9521-Flight' Typhoons of 1435Flt RAF Mount Pleasant, Falkland Islands coming into RAF Coningsby. Friday 25.09.2015.

Sorry for quality, but was just pleased to be able to catch them still in full marks.

Yes, 4 Typhoon Tranche 1 a/c went the other way on Monday 14 September - well, 6 actually but two were air spares. For the record, Ascot 9101 flight consisted of Voyager ZZ338 and Typhoons RRR 9511, ‘9512 and ‘9513, while Ascot 9102 flight consisted of Voyager ZZ337 and Typhoons RRR 9514, ‘9515 and ‘9516. The six Typhoon Tranche 1 a/c were ZJ915, ZJ918, ZJ926, ZJ930, ZJ933 and ZJ941 - of which ZJ930 and ZJ918 were air spares. These two, plus the 4 Typhoon Tranche 2 a/c from the Falklands (ZJ944/F, ZJ949/H, ZJ950/C and ZK301/D ) are all now back at Coningsby.

I get very confused with the status of our Typhoons, what with Tranche 1,2 and phase this and that! :S Does this swap over mean that the jets going out are less capable that those that have returned??

Steve.

After six year at Falkland I think there has a lot of Flying-Hours and need a main Overall. For air to air mission is no big difference at the moment between Tranche 1 & 2. The difference is in the air to ground mission.

I remember watching them land in the Falklands, doesn't seem like 6 years ago

I believe the Tranche 1 and 2 are both upto the same after various upgrades.

The jets in the Falkands were overhauled out there.
