Great pictures as always Ashley - fantastic especially for those of us who are not that close. Cheers

Gotcha, Ash :thumb:
I would normally report the aircraft's unit, as you say the 38th', but fair enough for this mission detachment.
Found this, for those that haven't seen it... https://reheataviation.wordpress.com/20 ... e-busters/

Nice patch on this for the 24th - a good one for the collection.

Are these aircraft marked as the link suggests? - Jungle Assassin and Sniper - not seen and markings myself or on any shots

Only say that as back in the 80s (yep - showing my age) the RCs were named 'Bark like a Dawg', 'Anytime Baby', 'Wild Thing' and 'Bet on it' etc and named on a 'plate' near the crew door

Cheers

Darren - They certainly are still named but there is nothing externally which tells you what name they are - I think all the history and names are probably visible on the inside. Here is the list...

62-4125 RC-135W [ex C-135B]
62-4127 RC-135W [ex C-135B]

62-4132 "Anticipation" RC-135W [ex RC-135M]
62-4134 "The Flying W" RC-135W [ex RC-135M]

Thanks for the list Ashley - interesting to see.

Do you know if these are 'current' names or have they had these names historically. From the photos in the 1989 Mildenhall 'Superbase' book there are the following

62-4139 - 'Bet on it' - similar to above 64-14843
62-4134 - 'Wild Thing'
64-14844 - 'Anytime Baby'

RC-135U 64-14849 - 'Bark like a Dawg'

Cheers

I'm not sure, Darren. I don't know if it was something to do with nose art which may have been applied in the past or if they just changed the names as a when they wanted but I think the names are current as I can't see any other names listed anywhere.

Good point - that was the time of more nose art being applied - that said the names only appeared on the black plate between the front crew door and the port SLAR cheek on most (along with the CC / ACC names) as opposed to being incorporated into extensive 'art'

'Anytime Baby' was painted in red directly onto the grey lower section of the fuselage adjacent to the crew door

Cheers

Nice pics Ashley.

One question; I saw pics also taken at your position when aircraft take taxiway "Echo" but the other pics I saw had the wheels of the aircraft cut off by the gras. Is that when you take them without a ladder ?? You used a stepladder I assume ?

Rgds,

Kier

Thanks Kier - yes that is correct. I always use a step ladder to get above the fence so that the wheels are visible, a 6 step is more than adequate.
