There was talk of the Squadron standing down Oct 2014 until Putin kicked off.
Believe there are no limits but the sky.

Though this is not the best picture in the world, being quite distant, quite soft and a lot of croppage..... just look at the difference in afterburner plume between the left and right engine.

Evening All,

These two images were taken last Friday (03-10-14). I'm not sure of the last time this 'bad girl' flew after Friday, so this could well of been its last successful 'wheels down' landing it made. Farewell #182.

Really horrid to hear about this accident, good to hear that the pilot has survived.

I guess there is now a possibility of a replacement airframe arriving over the winter, if they have any to spare!
Cheers, Stig.
I guess there won't be a replacement as they are/were on the cards for disbanding? Surely it would be an awful effort to get a jet over for a shortish period? :S
Not that much problem, I wouldn't have thought. Fly one back as part of the RETRO flight with some of LN's F-15Es that are returning from maintenance.

As to where the replacement airframe comes from, there are four "redundant" airframes now that the Aggressor squadron has disbanded. Or, possibly, filch one from the OR. ANG. I'm sure that, with fourteen of them, they can spare one - even if they are the premier F-15 training squadron.

I belive disbandment is likely to be delayed or completely cancelled for the time being.
New funding has been made available to keep an air superiority capability at Lakenheath, this will eventually mean deciding between keeping the 493rd in place or using deployments from CONUS to maintain it.
