JW Lossie Monday & Tuesday.

Post by alanp » Fri Apr 11, 2014 9:29 am

Having had to scrub the whole of last week due to the weather, Lucy and I spent Monday and Tuesday up at Lossie for JW. We adopted the high risk strategy of moving around the base to vary the style of shot and it mostly payed off with only a couple of wrong place, wrong time moments. Wind was the only issue and it was nice to finally see some sun. Here's a small selection, more on my flickr, which I'll add to over the next few days with some of Lucy's gooduns.

2. Possibly the most photographed movement of the week.

4. Nice surprise visitor.

5. Takes me back to the days of Canberras.

The Poseidon's high gloss finish and crisp black markings make it a lot more photogenic than the average 737.

9. Thanks to the crew of the Poseidon for the couple of missed approaches on Tuesday evening, even if the sun did't play ball, and to the airman at the observation window for adding some humour to my shot.

Fabulous images, thanks for posting, can I ask what is that 'object' in image 5?
Cheers

If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!

It's a sleeve target, it's towed (far) behind the jet for use as a gunnery target by ships and other aircraft. Once the task is complete, the target is dropped back at base and the number of holes in it counted to assess gunnery scores.
