RAF Ternhill - First solos

Post by IanG » Thu Jun 26, 2025 8:49 pm

Yesterday I was asked to go along and capture the first solo flights of trainee helicopter pilots from RAF Shawbury. I ended up spending an hour or so on the fence at RAF Ternhill and although I originally thought the Juno and Jupiter had about as much personality as a clog.....they've actually grown on me seeing them up close!

Thanks for sharing these with us, interesting selection of shots from a base I've not visited for well over thirty years. Good to see choppers as well.

Fab shots and from my 'local' ish airfield. Great to see something from Ternhill. My mum and dad used to go to the 'BoB At Home Days' in the 50s and 60s. Aren't there plans for it to be built on (with houses) in the future?

Thanks - certainly something different for me!

Yes, planning to close in 2029 and develop into the usual housing/schools/shops.....
