A-10 action at the range

Post by Jonesy » Tue Dec 10, 2024 5:10 pm

Back in September 2023 I managed to get approval to visit the Barry M Goldwater range in Arizona for the afternoon. Since Davis Monthan AFB is reasonably close by, the A-10 squadrons based there routinely uses the range. So I was hoping for some Hawg action and luckily it happened.

The weather didn't play ball with clouds rolling in and one pair of Hawgs scrubbed but this is what I got in the end which I'm happy with.

Great shots of the best looking squadron in my opinion, and one hell of an experience when they strafe the targets near the tower.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrt!!

Great set. I spent many an hour there about 20 years ago.
Another range I visited was Dare County Navy Range on the East coast. They got a T-34 to buzz the tower for me, and he was lower than me, with photos to prove it. :)
Barry Goldwater range used to be easy to visit once you had been to Gila Bend for a tuition class. At one time the range schedule was online so you could pick when The Hawgs were there.

What an opportunity and great pictures. I managed to see some A-10 Warthog for the first time last summer coming in the land at Nellis AFB whilst on holiday. Didn't get anything as close as these pics but something I won't forget. Thanks for sharing.
