Lossiemouth - Last Week

Post by TomG » Fri May 10, 2024 2:31 pm

Spent a few days up north last week to grab a much needed break. Weather was changeable and flying was rather sparse with only II(AC) and 6 Sqn up on the Typhoon side whilst a few of the resident P-8s were active during the week. The new 6 Sqn markings were notable and have been seen on at least four aircraft whilst there was the odd jet to be seen sporting II(AC) and IX(B) Sqn marks. ZJ935/WS-G was flying with II(AC) and was subsequently flown down to Warton this week with ZJ921 for RTP.

Cheers, Tom

Nice to see some markings again although I think I preferred the Blue shield on the 6 squadron jets tail than the white disc, even if they had it like on the Jags with just the red stencilling against the grey paint???

Nice shots - the Typhoon looks as good on the ground as it does in the air

Really like ZK337 taxying

I hadn't realized 6 Sqn emblem had changed until I saw the 'new' variant at Marham this morning on ZK336 and had to Google it!

Sorry but I can't agree about the new 6 Sqdn Tail marking, I prefer the previous blue marking..... Just my opinion.

Apologies to you Tom, these are great shot's but I went a bit off piste, owing to the 2 Squadron's featured and earlier memories

As you say, each to their own. Personally I like the markings and in these days of a widespread shortage of unit identity they are very welcome.

No apology needed, good to see a bit of banter exchanged and thanks for the kind words.

Could I just add to these comment's that the 6 SQUADRON Marking's are very similar to what was carried by the F4M - PHANTOM FGR.2
Only they had their's on the nose/front just under the canopy, whereas the TYPHOON just does'nt have the Nose for it

Looking in a publication by Linewrights - Richard L Ward - PHANTOM SQUADRONS of the ROYAL AIR FORCE & FLEET AIR ARM - ISBN - 0-946958 - 31 - 9
It seemed to be a popular place for F4 Squadron Marking's along with the jet intake covering
