RAF Lakenheath 30th April 2024

Post by MikeH » Tue Apr 30, 2024 8:05 pm

A few of this morning's launches taken from the forest entrance. I still don't know the reason some of the '35s have Luneberg Lens 'lumps' fitted and some don't:

The Luneberg lens is to enhance radar cross section, making it easier to be seen on radar skin paints. Leave it off, no, or minimal, radar pick-ups.

I know what it does, my question referred to why some have it and some don't. When not on operations, I would have thought it would be better if they could be seen on radar by all and sundry.
