Nellis AFB Red Flag 24-1

Post by Boxhill Bob » Sat Jan 20, 2024 2:18 pm

Hi Again Well back to Nellis for 2 days Red Flag 24-1 The First days weather 15th was not that good bright but no direct sun only the Red Flag aircraft flew as if was Martin Luther King Jr memoral Day
The second day was better but my usual ramp shots were not that good as the shim would not clear completely but have included them as people seem to like them. The Red Flag launch start at about 12:45 and last recovery is about 16:30 You lose the light by 16:46L at this time of year so last recovery shots were a challenge But I was Happy with the results.... Anyway on with the photos

Very nice. Hope that most of the RF aircraft are still there when I get out to Nellis in a couple of weeks time

Since the Typhoon fleet is generally devoid of any Sqn markings, have these been added for going out there?

Quite possibly. Ten aircraft were marked up in 3 sqn marks from last November onwards. They do seem to be on the increase again as 29, 41 and 11 sqn all have some jets marked up at the moment, coincidentally 12 sqn marked jets are on the decrease.

Well spotted! Actually there's at least 2 of them according to the pics. ZK314 (lh side wrong / 2nd flightline pic) and ZK437 (rh side wrong / overhead 4-ship).

Nice to see a F-16 wearing the’LV’ tail code, last time I seen that was on the 4451st Test Squadron A-7’s that supported the F-117 Black programme.

The Ramp shots are taken from Alto Avenue The Quarry

The CAG flew on 15th but the departure photo is not that good and the recovery was on the far runway :@

maybe a little bit off the subject, but back in the days - 09.11.1984 - RAF COLTISHALL had an approach on the 04 end by A7D - 70-0941 of the 4450thTG - LV
