Ocean Sky 2023 Gando AB, Gran Canaria

Post by mikee115 » Sun Nov 05, 2023 5:43 pm

Evening all,

Its not a bad place to go to photograph aircraft. Sun, sea and jet noise. A nice mix of types were seen on the day I went to the fence, during this two week exercise.

Very nice. The only time I've ever been to Las Palmas was in 1978. It was very different then! ;)

Good stuff - particularly like the Greek twin stick

Might have to swap from Lanzarote to Gran Canaria in future although I fancy a holiday in the Azores but that might be a hard sell!

Nice set of shots, makes me very sad though. I had planned to be there for nearly a year, then I got called in for a fairly big heart op in September which put the brakes on that idea. I did do SIRIO 22 last year, I stayed in El Burrero (10 minute walk from where you took these shots), it is the perfect combination of Sun, Sea, Sangria and Spanish Air Force !!

Great set of shots and a great looking excercise. Can I ask where the third shot of the HAS was taken and what focal lenth did you use?

Nothing new here! The 'Ample Train' series of inter-Air Force cross-servicing exercises ran from way back! In 1993 & 1997 there were such Exercises held at RAF St Mawgan.....& brilliant they were too! :thumb:
Whilst I'm certainly not saying that Greeks worked on Turkish jets & vice-versa, they were both on the same field, with transport support during the same periods. Okay, they were not next to each other, but professional tolerance prevailed! ;)
There were also multiple similar ' X-Servicing' Exercises throughout mainland Europe in the preceding decades where both subject Countries participated.

I hope nwalch doesn't mind me answering the question :)

That is taken from the hill next to the airfield (27.91494441038463, -15.388996714590327). You need at least 500-600mm full frame for such a shot without cropping.

Thank you. That was shot through the fence at this W3W location ///fished.shareholder.emotionally. The area is great for landing shots and easy to get to with plenty of parking. This was shot at 200mm.

Nice selection. Another one for my "to do" list before I'm too old.
